Deuteronomy 4:21-25

Too often we get filled up with spiritual “junk” (i.e., relationships, climbing career ladders) and then we have no room for spiritual nourishment. The hunger that we’re feeling is not just in our minds and bodies; it’s in our souls. We try to satisfy our hunger with shallow things, yet only closeness with God truly satisfies the deepest parts of us. He’s not just trying to change today’s meal; he’s trying to change your appetite. In this study, we’ll explore what it means to be satisfied in God and God alone, and how to arrive at that point.

The Bible is a compilation of 66 books. Each book has an overarching theme. Multiple stories and texts in each book point to an attribute of God. When these themes are recognized, they help us understand the message of that book better. It also allows us to see how One Single Story is woven from beginning to end. Ultimately, each theme will enable us to understand Jesus and why He came.

This devotional delves into the truths of the book of Joshua, which will help us stand in the most challenging spiritual battles against the world, the flesh, and the devil. Using the fearless leader Joshua as an example, we will learn how to endure the spiritual battle with a hostile and fierce world and emerge victorious. We are called to fight until victory!

This is the fifth part of a reading plan through the Bible, following the lectionary pattern of reading in the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament each day. In addition, each day this month will feature a memorization challenge for the Apostles' Creed, and there will be brief devotionals from different people in our Church scattered throughout the plan.
