Colossians

ДЕН 1 ОТ 8

In this letter, Paul addresses the church of Colosse- a church that he seems to have never visited! He repeatedly says, “we have heard…” not seen- heard. How often is what you’ve heard about another thing, person, or place a good report? Probably not often. And this was true of the church of Colosse too. Paul had HEARD from Epaphras that they had twisted some of the truths away from the perfection of the gospel.

So Paul uses this letter to correct them. But notice the start that we’re reading today. Encouragement: “we always thank God… when we pray for you”, “we have not stopped praying for you,” praying for their knowledge, strength, endurance, patience, and joy. How often do you start with encouragement when you want to call someone out? I know for me… probably never.

Notice also the depth of Paul’s prayer for these people he has never met. Paul’s love for the Church goes far beyond his love for his church. When was the last time we prayed for the “capital C” Church? Paul recognized we all have the same gospel- the same purpose- the same God!

“... all over the world the gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace and all its truth.”(verse 6). Paul understood that God’s grace should be extended to them in their error, to bring them back to His truth.

How do you approach accountability? With grace AND truth?

Spend some time praying for the global church: persecuted churches, churches that need to be reminded of the true gospel, and even other local churches.

Colossians

Paul’s letter to the church of Colosse is not your typical love letter. While written in love, he has the purpose of correcting some false teaching seeping in through the church’s own walls. In this 8-day devotional, we will spend two days deep in each chapter, searching for our own corrections!
