Moses: The Lessons I Can Learn

Has God forgotten what He can do?

"Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left." (Exodus 14:21-22, NKJV)

I would love to add a dozen exclamation points under these verses—what we just read is so much more than just a nice story! What happened here is powerful and AWESOME. Why? Because humanly speaking, the Israelites did not have a single possibility of escape from their impossible circumstances. Water faced them, and six hundred of Pharaoh's soldiers with the best chariots were behind them! (see Exodus 14:6, NIV) Pharaoh himself was on his way to destroy them!

I understand the Israelites' panic. Often we also panic when we're facing the impossible and don't know what to do. A situation unexpectedly rises up before us, and the enemy tries to throw us off track…his goal is to even completely destroy us.

In those moments, have we forgotten what God can do? I'm moved today by a thought: what if, in the Israelites' panic, God was giving them a small taste of the miracles to come because He wanted them to understand that He can do immeasurably more (see Ephesians 3:20, NIRV)? Maybe God parting the sea for the Israelites was a trial run or a warm-up for Him. He had so much more in mind, but He was waiting for their trust…to this day, He's still waiting for our trust as well!

In our fear, maybe we've forgotten to believe, meet God in prayer, and trust that everything is possible for Him! Can you pray faithfully, trusting in Him for what's possible when the solution seems impossible? God certainly hasn't forgotten His power, and that changes everything for you and me.

Maybe today you, too, are standing in a place where, humanly speaking, you can't go on anymore. You hear the voice of doubt and the whispered threats of worry. Then I'd like to exhort you today: if you want to throw something away, let it be your doubts, but do not throw away your trust! (see Hebrews 10:35, NKJV)

God will be pleased to perform new, great, and incomprehensible miracles because He still can…and He still will! ;-)

You are a miracle!

Moses: The Lessons I Can Learn

This week, let's explore Moses' life together. What drove him? What made him doubt? Trust? Where did he need to persevere because circumstances were against him? What does it take to experience miracles as Moses did? And, most importantly, what can we learn today from Moses visible trust in the invisible God?
