Affair Prevention in MarriageПример
In today’s video, Kristi talks about being in a busy season of life when she started to detach spiritually. We all have busy seasons of life. What matters more than the busyness is how we handle these busy seasons. Kristi attached herself to friends; one friend in particular. This friend was also struggling in her marriage, which made Kristi question her marriage even more. The Proverbs speak to this when they caution, “if sinners entice you, do not yield to them.” We cannot ignore the influence others can have on us. We all need friends, but we need healthy friends to walk with us, especially when we are going through something difficult.
The more she struggled, the more she put the two most important things in her life on the back burner: God and her husband. Kristi says at this point she was spiritually detached, and instead she had attached herself to friendships that fueled a mentality of questioning her marriage.
God is meant to be number one in our lives and marriages. Our spouse is supposed to be number two. We don’t do this by accident, but by guarding our heart, as the Proverbs and Malachi instruct. We do this by inviting God’s conviction; asking for his presence and seeking His ways over our own. When we put other people or things above God and our spouse, the outcome is never good.
After you watch the video, talk about the following questions.
- In busy seasons of life, who is your go-to person? Is this person healthy for you in those seasons?
- Where is God in your life today? In your marriage? What do you need to do today to put Him in first place?
- Are you spiritually tuned in or spiritually detached today?
- Where is your spouse in your life today? Where do you want your spouse to be? What can you do today to put your spouse second, right behind God?
- What are three things that can get ahead of God and your spouse as the top priorities in your life? What needs to change?
As you answered the questions, what did you learn both as individuals and as a couple? From what you learned, what is a good next step for the two?We all have busy seasons of life. That is not the issue. The issue is how we handle these busy seasons. Kristi attached herself to friends; one friend in particular.
