Day 2: How Did It All Begin?
Creation
How did it all begin?
Like all stories, this one starts in the beginning with the Author, who is God. He has always existed, and He has always existed exactly as He is now (Psalm 90:2). He is the only true God, one Being in three coeternal and coexisting Persons (John 1:1-3)—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. If it seems confusing, it's because He's beyond what anyone can fully comprehend.
God spoke and everything that is came into being (Genesis 1:1). By His command, the entire universe (Isaiah 40:28) was created and filled with a dramatic display of galaxies, stars, and planets—including Earth, on which was a perfect garden of paradise called Eden.
Of all the beauty God created, His masterpiece was a man and a woman. God made Adam and Eve in His image to reflect Him (Genesis 1:26). They were created with the grand purpose of worshipping Him by loving Him, serving Him, and enjoying relationship with Him. God gave them the freedom to make decisions and govern the earth, entrusting everything to His beloved children to enjoy and cultivate—with just one rule: They were not to eat fruit from a specific tree (Genesis 2:16-17). They lived in loving obedience, worshipping God (Psalm 95:3-7) as their Heavenly Father and enjoying perfect harmony with creation, each other, and God.
By God's design, peace and harmony filled the earth. There was complete love, acceptance, and intimacy between God and man, between Adam and Eve, and throughout creation.
Tomorrow we'll will explore the second chapter of God's Story, answering the question, what went wrong?
