Why, God?Узор
Can I Be Honest with God?
Have you recently asked yourself, “Why, God?” Perhaps you’ve been looking around and seeing heart-wrenching things happening in our world, or maybe in your own personal life, you’ve been hurt, frustrated, and confused. At times, we all wrestle and ask, “Why, God?”
In the Old Testament, we see the prophet Habakkuk asking the same question. In fact, the entire book of Habakkuk is the transparent, honest conversation Habakkuk has with God—and we can all identify with the questions he asked. You see, each of us experiences great tension in life between our expectations and our current reality. The gap between the two is called stress, frustration, and wrestling. It’s here we often complain. It's here we ask hard questions… but that’s where God comes in!
Habakkuk 1:2 says,
"O Lord, how long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” and You will not save."
You see, Habakkuk was deeply concerned about all he was seeing in the culture—as we are today. He was frustrated, but instead of tapping out and giving up, Habakkuk was honest with God and consistent in prayer.
Similar to Habakkuk, in Psalm 142:2, David says,
"I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble."
Like Habakkuk and David, we need to voice our complaints and frustrations to God. Processing and being honest with God realigns our souls and helps us to gain proper perspective—this will revolutionize your prayer life! Friend, God already knows what’s in your heart, but He wants to hear your voice and desires your honesty.
As you engage with God’s Word, ask:
● What is God saying to me?
● What does it mean to me?
● How can I apply what God is teaching me?
● How can I be specific in prayer today?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
