Serving God in a Hostile Environment. The Example of Daniel and His Friends

ДЗЕНЬ 9 З 17

Being involved in politics

King Nebuchadnezzar was really impressed with Daniel’s ability to describe and interpret his dream, and he rewarded him with many gifts and a good position. In his turn, Daniel appointed his three friends over the affairs of the province of Babylon and remained at the king’s court himself.

Being involved in politics, especially under a king or government that does not really serve the Lord, is not an easy job. It is difficult to keep true to God’s will and to let it guide your daily decisions. Being firm in your principles can damage your career or even endanger your life, as Daniel will experience later on. But having a high position also gives opportunities to seek the welfare of your people! It can be a real blessing for a community to have wise, God-fearing leaders. “When a land transgresses, it has many rulers, but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will long continue” (Proverbs 28:2).

The apostle Paul writes in 1 Timothy 2:1-2: “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” It’s our responsibility to be faithful in the place where God has put us, and to pray especially for people in high positions. Do you do that regularly?
