The Lord Provides

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.’ (1 Peter 5:7)

From September 1944, Betsie and Corrie are in Ravensbrück, a women’s concentration camp and education camp for SS guards. It is a time of terrifying hardships. One day, Corrie gets a bad cold and she has a constant runny nose. How she longs for a handkerchief!

“Why don’t you pray for a handkerchief?” Betsie asks her. Corrie laughs: “Praying for a handkerchief when the world around me is falling apart, people are suffering and are killed by the thousands? No way! Pray for the big things, not for something insignificant as a handkerchief!”

But before Corrie can express these thoughts, Betsie already starts to pray: “Dear Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus, I pray for a handkerchief for Corrie because she has such a bad cold.” Corrie shakes her head and walks away. But some time later she’s standing near the window of her barrack and hears someone call her name. It is a friend who works at the hospital barrack. She is standing at the other side of the window and gives her a small parcel: “I have a small present for you,” she says.

Corrie can’t believe her eyes: It is a handkerchief! “Did Betsie tell you about my cold?” she asks. “I do not know anything about you having a cold,” her friend replies. “I was sewing handkerchiefs with old sheets. Then suddenly the following words came into my mind: Bring a handkerchief to Corrie. It is a present from God.”

Question:
In the light of all the suffering in this world, would you dare to cast your small anxieties on Him, trusting Him that He knows what you need and that He will take care of you?

Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, that I can bring all my small and great anxieties to You and that You will take care. Amen.

Difficult Times: God’s Preparation and Provision

In this reading plan, we will learn more about God’s provision and preparation in difficult times with Bible verses from the letter of Peter (N.I.V.) and stories from the life of Corrie ten Boom and her family. One of the keys is to allow God to use what happened in the past for the present and for the future.
