GOD’S MAGNET
A person after God’s own heart
Men were drawn to David like a magnet in the years preceding his coronation as king of Israel. Literally thousands of warriors, officers, and men who were drawn to and loyal to David and his cause are documented in 1 Chronicles 12:23–40. During David’s rigorous years of refinement and maturity before becoming king, his armies and followers continued to multiply. When people heard the news of his victories and understood the heart of David, the man God had anointed as future king, because he was a man after his (God’s) own heart, they rallied to David’s side.
As the news media shares the heroic deeds of first responders, as people personally witness the results of their heroic tasks, as documentaries share the life-ending valor of those who responded to the Attack on America, and as movies depict the challenges of first responders, many are drawn to emergency service careers. These careers are like a magnet is to iron to those who desire to serve.
David was fighting for God’s cause. First responders are serving their communities. Is it any wonder people were, and are, drawn to these worthy causes?
Many firefighters have mentioned how thankful they are when they learn of others in their departments or the fire service in general who are after God’s own heart—men and women who bring not only their training and skill on a call but also bring Christ with them.
The worldly nature and atmosphere of many departments have hindered Christians from stepping forward, proclaiming their faith, and bravely sharing the greatest cause of all—salvation of mankind. It’s essential to others’ eternal destiny that believers step forward steadfastly. It is through faithful, brave, and determined followers of Christ, sharing the greatest cause ever, that others will be drawn to you, and therefore to Christ, as a magnet is attracted to iron.
Salvation is the greatest cause of all. What good is it if you save a physical life only for the person to face eternal death? Likewise how foolish to serve and save those you don’t know, and fail to share your saving knowledge with those you work with! Are you a person after God’s own heart?
Prayer:
Lord, may my walk with you be one that draws others to you.
