Red-Letter Day

DAY 12 OF 12

Over the past few days, you’ve read about the final words Jesus spoke on the darkest of days when He was crucified on the cross for the sins of the world. Even though it was a sad day, it was not the end. It was the beginning of a new story. Luke 24 and Matthew 28 detail what happened three days later when Jesus fulfilled His promise and returned from the dead. All the pain and sorrow Jesus and His disciples endured were washed away in the same way our sins were washed away.

Beginning in Matthew 28:18, Jesus said His final words before departing to be with His Father. These words were not just for the disciples, but they’re meant for us today. Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Jesus gave you this great commission to live out each and every day of your life. This is your mission. In recent days, you’ve learned that you have unfinished business with God, that only He can satisfy your thirst, and that you are to go out and help satisfy the thirst of those who don’t know God yet.

So many of Jesus’ last words were spoken to move us to action and to focus us on others. Jesus accomplished what God sent Him to do. Now it’s our turn to pick up where He left off and bring light to a darkened world. It’s your turn to go and truly become the hands and feet of Christ. Where do you feel God leading you to bring light? What are you going to do about it? Today, pray and ask God to help you take action as you live out the great commission.
