Starting The Journey - Disciple Makers Series #1

DAY 2 OF 6

God chooses strange forebearers for His Son (Part 2)

These are the names that lead up to King David – and then all the kings of Israel that came from David.  God promised David that he would always have a king to rule his throne and eventually the Messiah.  Some of these kings were good – but some were bad (even VERY bad).  God just keeps His promises.  This was a promise that the people of Israel just held on to very tightly.  They were looking for the Messiah to be the king that would rule and set them free from the Romans.

Again we have three more women.  A prostitute who changed and followed God (Rahab).  A foreigner who was a nobody (Ruth) and a lady who had an affair with king David while married to another man(Bathsheba).  Would you put these people in your family?  God did!  He then broadcast this information to the whole world so that everyone knows it.

Time to Pray

Father, these people are just names to us.  We do not know them except for a few stories about them.  You chose them to be in the lineage of Jesus.  They are good people, bad people, simple people, famous people.  They all make it in this list.  Many of us could see ourselves here too.  The most important thing is that You kept Your promises.  Through all of the challenges of the years, You kept Your promise to us.  When life is difficult and we wonder if You will keep a promise You made to us – help us look at this list of people and trust You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Starting The Journey - Disciple Makers Series #1

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is the 1st of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. How does the journey start? It brings in the stories of many people – you might even see yourself in these people. Each played an important part in the birth of Jesus.
