But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. 2 Thessalonians 3:13

In this final chapter, Paul addresses practical concerns within the Thessalonian church. He emphasizes the importance of diligence in work and warns against idleness — calling those that walk in a disorderly manner “busybodies”. The term used here does not mean being merely lazy – he was speaking to those who refused to work and found that their lives were in chaos. The apostle sets himself as an example, reminding the believers of his own hard work among them. He instructs the church to withdraw from those who do not walk according to the way of the Lord, ending the chapter with the encouragement that many of us have found to be the encouragement that we need to keep going; “do not grow weary in doing good.”

Could it be that “finishing the race well” means to commit ourselves to relationships, work, and service (and all that comes with these things) in blessed assurance of the coming of Jesus?

  1. How do I resonate with Paul’s emphasis on working diligently?
  2. What does it mean to "not grow weary in doing good" in my daily life?
  3. How can I both show love while exercising discipline within my own community of believers?

The Path of Perseverance

In the final hour, many will fall away, but there will be a remnant that finishes the race of faith well. Now, more than ever before, we need a reawakening in our hearts of the true meaning of enduring through trial, suffering, and pain in light of the return of Jesus. "The Path of Perseverance" is a 26-day journey through the books of Philippians, 1st & 2nd Thessalonians, James, 1st & 2nd Peter, and Jude.
