A Life of Faith: A Parents Prayer Guideናሙና
Scripture tells us that God is like a potter and we are like the clay that he works with (Isaiah 64:8). He forms us with his hands, but he doesn’t forget about us once he is done! We are not a clay pot that sits on a shelf and is only touched when we remember to dust it every now and then. No, God continues to shape us.
In fact, God loves us so much that he calls us his own! When we choose to follow Jesus, we are adopted into God’s family where there is both freedom and grace. Our father is so faithful to us that even when we don’t choose him or we run away from him, he waits for us and rejoices when we return. There is nothing we, or our kids, could ever do that would make our heavenly father love us less (or more!).
If you or your kids have not had a positive experience with a father figure, the concept of viewing God as father can be a struggle. There is real hurt there that often makes this type of faith challenging. But here is what the Bible confirms is true: God created the world, he is the giver of life, our authority, and our protector. He is our good father.
No matter what your relationship with your earthly father looks like, the truth is, even the best fathers will fail their children. No one can be a perfect parent. There is one perfect parent and that is God! Our job is to raise the kids that God entrusted us with and point them to him in everything that we do.
So this week, let’s pray that our kids know God as the good father that he is.
Prayer
Lord, you are our good father. You created us in your good image and without you, we would not exist. This week I pray that __________ would come to know you as father. That they would choose to follow you and grow to be confident in their identity as your child, holy and dearly loved. May they remember that you will always come running after them, rejoicing in their decision to be part of your family. Amen.
