DAY 6 OF 7

Weedy Heart’s Soil

Unfortunately, some fall to the wayside through compromise, and simply give up their faith and walk away from God. Their internal root system shrivels up and dies. Matthew 13:24-30 tells us of the parable of the wheat and weeds. We must allow the Holy Spirit into our souls to bring growth and prepare our hearts to receive the truth of God. And to bring us to repentance so that He can pull the weeds (sin) from our lives.

2 Corinthians 4:18 refers to the things which are seen, these troubles we see are like weeds. These nuisances are obvious, such as lust, addictions, and pride. However, the unseen, eternal things are matters of the heart and reveal the heart's soil. So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. Fruit that lasts stems from godly deep roots born in the heart–the organ of our body that God sees. He measures us by what is in our spiritual heart to see what is pure and what will produce long-lasting fruit.

Is there love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness, and self-control in your heart? Or are there too many weeds, like distractions, pride, and deception? Weedy soil will not produce good godly fruit. For God’s truth to go deep, faith demands a deeper root system and a fertile heart’s soil to bring about kingdom-centered fruit bearing with lasting impact.

God—our Gracious Gardner—will take out what’s dead and revive your heart. He desires that faith would be your internal operating system (IOS.) The Lord wants all His sons and daughters to be drawn into truth by listening to the Holy Spirit and learning from Him. When you commit to embracing the growth process God has for you, then you will benefit from a deeper insight and have a more complete revelation of who He is.

The road of intimacy with God will bring promised root growth. You will come out from this season renewed, refreshed, rejuvenated, and repurposed for a powerful life ahead. We owe it to God to follow Him and obediently allow Him to deepen our spiritual roots.

About this Plan

Deeply Rooted

Your spiritual root system can’t survive with shallow roots. We’re to grow deep into God and take seriously the responsibility to produce fruit in God’s kingdom. With all the multiplying distractions in the world, it’s easy to let our roots grow into shallow, self-serving disciplines. To be consistent in our spiritual growth and remain faithful, allow God to develop your roots to reach a deeper level.
