A Life Laid Down: Reflections From the Centennial of Eric Liddell

DAY 2 OF 5

Day 2: Crossroad Moments – Take Your Decisions To God

Part of our faith journey includes many different crossroads. In fact, we often face multiple moments in our day where we are confronted with important choices that challenge our faith. These crossroads are important junctures along our path, places where we must choose to walk in the ways of God or walk in the ways of the world. Sometimes when we arrive at a crossroads, it might not be clear which decision we should make. It is at these moments where we must take our decisions to God, and seek His guidance. These crossroads can be tests that invite us to stretch our faith, and can have a profound impact on our lives. Hence, we must learn to walk by faith and not by sight.

For Eric Liddell, one crossroads moment came when he learned that the race he had been training for years for fell on the Sunday. He discerned the right thing to do, and knew in his heart that he would honor God, rather than compromising his values. To him, walking in the ways of the Lord were far more important that walking in the ways of the world, even though there was the opportunity and the invitation to glory. It is at such crossroad moments when we learn what we are made of, and how strong our faith really is.

Maybe our crossroads won't be as momentous at the one Eric Liddell faced in 1924. However, we can rest assured that God sees every single decision that we make, and He has prepared us to make the right decisions by faith. So, whether you face a decision at work, are tempted in a situation or relationship, or are confronted with an opportunity that would involve compromise, know that you can call on God and His Holy Spirit to strengthen you and give you the ability to walk in obedience and His ways.

This is the key in navigating these crossroads: having the firm commitment to take our choices to God before we act. The truth is that God wants to talk with you about your decisions, and is waiting for you to bring these decisions to Him.

About this Plan

A Life Laid Down: Reflections From the Centennial of Eric Liddell

The 100th anniversary of Eric Liddell's stand at the 1924 summer games is an opportunity for the body of Christ to reflect on the meaning of laying down one's life for the gospel. Liddell's story shows us how to do that, and is as powerful a testimony today as it was a century ago. This plan explores his story and what we can learn from his bold faith.
