John Chapter 11
Title: Trust in God’s Timing

Scripture: John 11:21, 40
Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”

Thought:
Trusting God for miracles and important breakthroughs in our lives can be difficult. We often find ourselves waiting longer than we expected for the answer, healing, and reassurance from God that we feel desperately in need. These feelings of frustration and impatience are common to all of us.

In the story of Lazarus's death and resurrection, we learn that, more often than not, God's timing and plans are very different from what we anticipated. The encouraging and faith-inspiring lesson is that we can always trust Jesus is aware and powerful over our situations.

Mary and Martha may have thrown in the towel when it came to hoping that Jesus could save their brother’s life once he took his last breath, but the restoration of Lazarus’ life was still coming, just not when or how the sisters expected it to come! I doubt anyone expected their prayer to be answered that way!

Application:
We have this testimony of Jesus’ miracle with Lazarus as a beacon of hope to remind us that God always has a plan. God always hears our prayers and our requests. The crucial thing for us to remember is that Jesus doesn’t always answer in our timing or the way we want.

When we trust God for something, let’s decide to have a broader vision of how he could answer our prayer. Be on the lookout for changes in your workplace, family, school, or university that are actually an answer to your prayer. Trust in God to be your provider and miracle worker, and trust His timing.

Prayer:
Lord, help us to trust in Your perfect timing and plan. Strengthen our faith, especially during times of waiting and uncertainty. May we believe in Your power and be open to seeing Your glory revealed in our lives. Amen.

Let There Be Light

At the beginning of Genesis 1, God spoke the word, “Let there be light,” and it overcame darkness. In Jesus, God sent the Word, Jesus, and He overcame the darkness helping us see God’s good plan for our lives. By reading one chapter from John’s gospel each day, with the accompanying devotion, you’ll see God’s nature in Jesus, God’s work through Jesus, and God’s plan for all to know Jesus.
