A Life of Wisdom and Trust
As followers of Jesus, we live in a world where all is not as it seems, where often the thing that is presented to us as the right thing to do is, in fact, the wrong thing to do. To navigate this world, we need wisdom. We need the ability to understand what is the right thing to do from God's perspective before troubles appear before us. When you need wisdom, ‘ask our generous God and he will give it to you, he will not rebuke you for asking (James 1:5).'
As we go about life in this world, we have an enemy, Satan, and he is constantly setting traps for us. A key part of a Christian's life is our communion with Jesus, which means sharing close and intimate moments with Him. There is a force of evil whose main goal is to steal, kill and destroy our lives; that is on the prowl trying to get us to give up our treasure. In Genesis chapter 3 we come across the scam of all scams. The first humans are in the Garden of Eden and then comes the Serpent (Satan). He tells them that what God said is the right thing to do, is actually the wrong thing to do. This is how the enemy works - he takes truth and distorts it. He puts doubt into our minds about God’s trustworthiness. He tells us that God is just trying to keep us from having the best life possible and that God doesn't have our best interests at heart.
This can seem most true when we experience troubles and challenges in life. The enemy sets traps for us, but could it be that the very thing the enemy means to trap us, God means to be an opportunity for us to grow? Hear these words from James 1:2: ‘When troubles of any kind come your way consider it an opportunity for great joy.’ When things have gone wrong and you think you've lost everything, consider this an opportunity for great joy, for when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
Wisdom is about being able to hold on to the truth of God amidst the lies of the enemy and is about treasuring and valuing the word of the Lord. A life of wisdom is a life of trust in Jesus.
