Leadership: How Jesus Led

Jesus was interruptible.

Jesus was never too busy to make time for people. We were made for relationship, so Jesus knew the value of making time for the people He came to earth to love.

His work was essential, but He was never too caught up in the task to stop, notice, and appreciate the people He was doing it with. Ultimately, showing God’s love to the people around Him was His task! And it’s ours too.

We read about this interruptible demeanor in Mark 2:3-11 when four men carried their paralyzed friend to the home that Jesus was speaking in to be healed. The crowd was so big, that they decided to climb onto the roof, cut a hole, and lower their friend to where Jesus was. When the man was lowered in front of him, He stopped His teaching and paid full attention to the men, acknowledging them, their faith, and their persistence. His teaching was important, but showing compassion to these men took precedence in that moment and put action to the very principles He was teaching about! Let us be leaders who also put action to the value we have for those around us, and make time to show our appreciation and love for those we lead.

How do you respond when someone interrupts a task or project you’re working on? Are you approachable? Do you take time to be with people and affirm the value they have as a person, or do you only view people as what they can contribute or do for you? Are those beliefs reflected in your actions?

Pray and ask God to show you three ways that you can attribute value to individuals who you interact with this week.
