Have you ever seen one of those nature documentaries that shows a snake shedding its skin.? Or maybe you’ve come across a snake skin at some point. It’s a pretty impressive thing to see and imagine that at one point, this was the snake, until, the snake just sheds it off and leaves it behind.
In the same way. Paul tells us that in Christ, we have shed off an old skin. We are a new creation and leave behind the old. The old creation—that was powerless to change, that believed itself to be separated from God, that lived separated from God doesn’t steer our thoughts or have a say. It isn’t who we are anymore. It doesn’t define us. It’s discarded for our new identity. And this new identity lives with the truth of who God is and who God says we are as the compass for our lives.
There’s a lot of freedom in leaving that old self behind and shedding that skin. There’s a lot of hope and possibility when we begin to live like the new creation is the truest thing about us and not the old skin we left behind.
Today, thank God for the brand new start, for a spirit is recreated and free from sin. Determine to make decisions in light of that new nature. Choose to let that nature rule the things you think, say, and do.

Over the next few weeks, we will discover a personal God and what that means for us.
