Pray the Word

DAY 13 OF 21

The Inspired Word

Today's verse is one of those places in the Bible that tells us how we got the Bible. The apostle Peter tells us that those who wrote the words of Scripture were “carried along by the Holy Spirit.” This reminds us of 2 Timothy 3:16, where we read that “all Scripture is breathed out by God.” What a beautiful picture of the wonder of God’s Word!

The prophecy that we read in Scripture was spoken and recorded by men, but it was God’s Spirit who carried these men along so that what they communicated came ultimately from God himself. As Peter reminds us, “no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man.” The only way we can know God is if he reveals himself to us.

Gratefully, God has not left us in the dark about who He is, how he works, or how we can experience abundant life, both now and forever. He has made known his mercy and grace in his Spirit-breathed, supernatural Word. Allow this truth to encourage you in a fresh way to love the Word, to spend time in it, and to meditate on it day and night.

Prayer

God, we pray that you would help us to love your Word more, to grow in our desire for it. Your Word is so good! It is water for our souls every morning. It is food that sustains us. It is more important than our daily bread. Oh, how we need your Word!

Lord, we treasure your Word and we praise you for giving it to us, for carrying people along by your Spirit that they might proclaim your Word and write it down.

God, we pray for the spread of your Word through our lives. Help us not to be silent but to proclaim what you have said to others in the power of your Spirit that they might be saved and experience the supernatural power of your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
