STEWARD WHAT’S IN YOUR HANDS

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much… ” (Luke 16:10a)

We tend to want opportunities that carry more value. But what do we do with the things we consider “very little”?

It’s easy to downplay moments, opportunities, and even our talents because they don't seem significant. However, no matter the size or package it comes in, anything God gives us is significant because it comes from Him, which means we have a responsibility to steward it well.

When we look at the life of Elisha, we see examples of how he stewarded what he had, no matter what (or who) it was. Nothing was beneath him, despite his authority.

In 2 Kings 6:1-7, Elisha was spending time with his students when he performed what most of us would call a tiny (and somewhat strange) miracle. As you read the passage, you might not even think to call it a miracle because of its simplicity. Making an ax head float wasn’t necessarily in the same category as healing someone or raising them from the dead. Elisha had the respect of kings, and yet in this passage, we see him care for the seemingly smallest matter. He pauses to help one of his students retrieve a lost tool. He never forgot to care for those closest to him. (A trait, no doubt, learned from being under Elijah’s leadership!)

Elisha was serving those who followed him because one day he would be gone and his ministry would be released into their hands. And that’s the thing about stewardship — one day, what’s in your hands will fall into someone else’s. Great leaders recognize this and know when to hold on to what God has given them and when to pass it on to a new person.

A big part of leadership is knowing when to receive something new and when to release something old.

But it begins with knowing what season you’re in and seeking wisdom from God so you know what He’s asking you to do. Then, you steward that with excellence.

It all comes down to perspective. Do you know what season you’re in, and do you value what God’s given you?

What if you’ve labeled something “small” that God sees as significant? Or maybe you’re clinging to something that feels important, but it’s no longer aligned with your Calling.

Think about it: If Elisha had held on to his plows and oxen, he wouldn’t have been able to reach for the future God had prepared for him.

The best leaders make the most of every moment. They walk with God so they stay aligned with the Spirit. They know when to release and when to receive. And they commit to their Calling with their whole heart for the good of the generation behind them and the Glory of the God who reigns over them.

Inhale and pray: God, I receive what You’ve put in my hands.

Exhale and pray: Help me release what’s not mine to carry.
