The Four Living Creatures Series Part 3: The Manናሙና
Fear
At times, we face things in life that generate an intense feeling of fear that we can not explain. We pray, and we lose confidence in the prayer. It is as if no one understands what you are feeling. Incredibly, although Jesus preached faith, He also faced the challenge of fear. He was about to be crucified, and His prayer became so intense that “His sweat became as great drops of blood falling to the ground”. The medical terminology of this physical phenomenon is “hematohidrosis”, which manifests due to extreme exertion. In other words, the stress and the anxiety that Jesus experienced and the series of events that were to follow, caused a physical reaction. The Bible says that Jesus “despised” the shame that resulted from the open humiliation that He received on that fateful day. Even Jesus had a weak moment, so much so that after His prayer, an angel was dispatched to strengthen Him.
We do not have to feel alone in our worries. Jesus, as the man, knew what terror looked like. There are situations of life that are absolutely dreadful to endure, but take courage in the example of Jesus. He was not exempt from experiencing the effects of fear, however, He came out to be victorious in the end. Ask for God’s help where you need it, and walk boldly through your trial.
