Sisters in Christናሙና
Training & Discipleship
"These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God". Titus 2:3-4 NLT
What does it mean to train? A few approaches to consider are:
- To walk alongside one another.
- To do life together.
- To give instruction founded on God's Word
- To encourage.
- To model.
I believe this is the heart behind mentorship: As we "do life together" with other women, we build them up. We equip and encourage them on their journey as they grow as daughters of God and sisters in Christ.
I love how Colossians 3:16 is worded in the Amplified translation: “Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind – permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom…” Colossians 3:16 AMP
An important factor to not miss in training is that it requires intentionality and discipline. And I get it; as a mom of little children, sometimes I feel I don’t have the time or energy to add one more thing to my agenda. But, dear sister, I’ve found that when I call upon the Lord, Jehovah Jireh, He provides in ways beyond what I expect. I humbly ask Him to open my eyes to opportunities and methods of organizing or modifying routines that will allow me to align myself with His will.
Prayer: Father God, I thank You that You have designed and called us to live in community with one another. I know it is Your will that sisters in Christ would train and encourage one another in the faith. I pray that You would open my eyes and heart to live this out. Thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
