Jehovah: A Name of Godናሙና
Jehovah is a name used for God throughout Scripture. It is the English translation for the divine Hebrew name which we pronounce Yahweh. Jehovah is often combined with another name to reveal more about His character. We will be studying some of these over the next ten days.
Jehovah is used 6,500 times throughout Scripture and it means “the existing one”. It is first used in Genesis 2:4, although my favorite verse using it is Joshua 1:9 which says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for Jehovah your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Jesus showed us in the Lord's Prayer why it is so important that we know the name of Jehovah, so today reflect on how well you know Him. How well do you know His love? His character? How well do you know His promises? Ask Him to reveal something new to you.
To see another time the name Jehovah is used, read Exodus 6.
