Returning to Intimacyናሙና
Only one thing is necessary.
In this life, we all seek our true north. We want to see the light that brings clarity and purpose to our hearts. There are many ways to find purpose in life. That could be finding out what we’re good at, what we like to do, reading books about purpose, etc. I believe the place that brings purpose to our existence is our secret place with God. The place that only you and God share. In the book of Psalms, we read that the fountain of life resides with God. This word is beautiful. Jesus is the fountain of life and anyone who seeks Him can access Him. The word goes on to say IN GOD’S LIGHT WE SEE LIGHT. It’s important to understand this verse because this life offers us light in other forms and distractions, but none of that guides us to the True light, which is in Christ. Why is true light only found in Jesus? What really is that true light? Jesus is the fountain of life! Jesus is the compass that guides us to our true north. Only He can satisfy our souls.
Seated At His Feet
In the book of Luke, we read that Jesus was welcomed into the home of two women named Martha and Mary. In this story, we are given two perspectives regarding how to go about life. Martha was hard at work with all the preparations, making sure everything was in order. The word “preparation” means “service” here, meaning Martha was serving Jesus. On the other side of things, Mary was simply seated at The Lord’s feet listening to HIS WORD. When Martha was bothered by her sister not helping, Jesus responded by telling her, “Only one thing is necessary and Mary has chosen the good part.” The last thing Jesus says after that is, “which shall not be taken away from her.” Wow. Nobody can take away your intimacy with God. Those moments in secret with Jesus cannot be erased. At times, we must remember to slow down and simply listen to the word of God while soaking in His presence. There are countless things we can do for God. We can serve, work, or even preach, but nothing compares to seeking intimacy with God in secrecy.
