Precious Moments That Count For Eternityናሙና
Does Grace Give Us Permission to Sin?
Grace is a popular topic today. It frees us from years of misconceptions and encourages us to boldly approach God, in spite of many past wrongs. Yet the same grace that keeps no record of sin is used to justify many sins.
Can a believer truly be saved and continue in sinful ways?
Romans 6:2 states that we have died to sin. The truth is that when we accept Jesus and undergo a change of heart, our spirits become just like Him, so that we will never want to walk in sin. In many cases, the change is very evident when the new believer undergoes a complete change in his lifestyle and old habits. 1 John 3:6 (NIV) states, ‘No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known Him’.
Does that mean that believers are perfect and don’t ever sin? Of course not! Man was born with a sinful nature that began with Adam (Romans 5:12). But Jesus’ complete and perfect work on the cross has made us righteous. Today, while we aim to be more like God, we may stumble and fail. Yet the work that Jesus did on the cross stands perfect and complete in saving us and wiping out every record of sin. God keeps no account of our sin. He is only interested in loving us.
The deeper the revelation of God’s love for us, the more we will want to stay as far away from sin as possible. No one who walks in God and with God will ever want to continue in sin. Their love for God will keep them and motivate them to stay away from sin; not the fear of punishment (1 John 4:18).
Prayer
Lord, continue to deepen the revelation of Your grace and love for me that I may lead a life pleasing to You and have victory over every sin. Amen.
