DAY 1 OF 7

Go over there and pray

"...'Sit here while I go and pray over there.'" (Matthew 26:36, NKJV)

This short phrase from the Bible has great meaning! One day, I'd come home completely exhausted, drained from having to fight battles on many different levels. I remember writing to my friend, "I am so exhausted that I can't function anymore." Whenever anyone asked me, "How are you?," I started crying. Yes, I have those moments, just as I'm sure you do, too.

Unfortunately, I made a rookie mistake that day. I was so exhausted that I just crawled into bed and watched a movie. My Bible and beloved devotional book stayed closed. I was just too tired.

However, it was because of this difficult day that the meaning of Matthew 26:36 later became much clearer to me. Don't you think that Jesus, knowing He was about to die, was also bone-tired as He walked into Gethsemane? Don't you think He was tired of the arguments, tired of this battle He fought for us, tired of people simply not wanting to understand who He really was?

But He went "over there" by Himself—beyond His disappointment, beyond His exhaustion, beyond His pain—and prayed!

His choice touches and speaks to me. Scripture says Jesus "…began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed." (Matthew 26:37, NKJV) Yet He went "over there" to pray.

That day, I'd missed going "over there" and thus experiencing God's help in that moment. When I read retrospectively that day's entry in my devotional book, I was amazed, for there indeed was the encouragement I had so desperately needed the day before.

I encourage you today —go "over there" and pray, and you, too, will experience God's help!

You are a miracle!
