The Purpose Experienceናሙና
God’s Proposal
What’s your purpose? Over the course of the next seven days, we’ll be turning to God’s Word to find out! This YouVersion plan was created to equip you with the biblical cornerstones of who you are and who you were meant to be. Lean in as we unpack the principles of purpose throughout Scripture.
As we begin, we need to recognize there is a Designer, Who, in His infinite wisdom, designed our lives. With that being said:
No matter how amazing a proposal any man gives, it fails in comparison to what God has offered us.
The proposal Jesus made to you and me is good news! He didn’t just get down on one knee—He literally laid His whole life down on a cross! He said in John 10:10 that He came to give us life, and life more abundantly. This abundant life is about living with a purpose! It is an amazing proposal.
God’s proposal, in fact, is the greatest one that has ever been given. It is the reason we live. To say “yes” to Him is to receive the greatest joy and fulfillment one can obtain. Jesus’ proposal can be trusted. He loves you. He created you on purpose, and He knows why you exist. Everything Jesus did and said was intentional.
A cup is for holding liquid. A fork is for eating. A refrigerator is for keeping food cold. Scissors are for cutting things. A surfboard is for riding waves. A car is for driving from one place to the next. These items do not exist by themselves and for themselves; they exist to be used in a specific manner to make an impact. They were created to solve a problem. The most important thing is not that the cup just exists; it’s why the cup was created. Who is it for? It is for the person who will fill it and use it to drink in order to sustain life.
In the same way, we exist and have been created by God to solve a problem—to carry out a task and perform a function. God had a specific intention in mind when He created you. Problems reveal purpose! The problem of Goliath revealed David’s purpose. The Philistines were a huge obstacle to the Israelites, God’s chosen people. David solved that problem by defeating Goliath, and David later became Israel’s king. Just like David, we are the cup that God wants to fill with His Spirit so that we can be a source of life and blessing to others. We were not created for ourselves but to be a means to an end for someone else.
Everything Jesus did was intentional—every word He said, every person He talked to, every miracle He performed. Jesus never did anything without a purpose. We, too, must live our lives with purpose and intentionality if we want to maximize our potential. Psalms 139:13-14 speaks on this, talking about how far back God’s hands-on designing goes. You are not a mistake; you were handmade by God! You were knit together in your mother’s womb and specially made for something great!
Jeremiah 29:11-13 agrees with this. This passage speaks to the awesome plans God has for each of our lives. Plans to prosper! Plans to bring Him glory! God has specifically crafted you to do good works in order that people may praise the heavenly Father. Ephesians 2:10 tells us this and gives the very reason we were created! One version even uses the word “masterpiece.” You are not just a work of art; you are literally a masterpiece created by God Himself! You are designed so uniquely that nobody else like you exists.
Purpose cannot be gained by knowledge alone but also through your experiences—experiencing God and life. It is through these experiences that God is developing you and shaping your purpose.
Purpose is experiencing God’s process of becoming all you were created to become so that you can intentionally accomplish all you were called to do for His glory.
Today, Jesus is asking if you will trust Him. He is inviting you to experience Him and His love for you. Will you take His hand and let Him lead you on this greatest of adventures? Will you say yes to God’s proposal?
