The Good Life

DAY 2 OF 20

Solomon’s words in Ecclesiastes have a truth that we will all learn at some point if we don’t fully believe it. When we die, we will leave everything behind. It’s been said, “You don’t take a U-Haul of your stuff to heaven.” Solomon continued to process his thoughts about the meaning of our work here on this side of heaven, and he came to this conclusion: “A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This, too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?” (Ecclesiastes 2:24-25). Solomon found that one of life's greatest blessings is for a person to be satisfied in their work and with the fruit of their labor. In reality, some of us are working and working without much enjoyment—we’re missing the satisfaction part. Some of us are working hard to maintain a lifestyle that, if we just tuned down the lifestyle, we would be able to rest and find more enjoyment. Or maybe you’re simply in a busy season or working toward a goal. Whatever the case, it may be time to reevaluate what you’re pursuing and if it’s worth it. Maybe it’s time to adjust your lifestyle so you can decrease your labor and increase your satisfaction. Your good Father wants you to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

About this Plan

The Good Life

We all want something bigger and deeper than us, and that’s often where things and stuff come in—we’re trying to fill that longing. Having possessions and stuff isn’t bad, but does it satisfy? Let's take a deeper look at the treasures God intends for us, the things that will satisfy the desires of our hearts. The things God wants to give us so we can truly live the good life.
