The Power of God

For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.
1 Corinthians 4:20 (ESV)

In this verse, Paul tells us that the Kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. We have to bear in mind that Paul did not have a great outward appearance, nor was he a great motivational speaker (2 Corinthians 10:9). However, he was not concerned with these superficial things since he did not trust in himself but the power of God. We don’t have to be great speakers when we preach the good news to pre-believers. We only need to rely on the Power of God and His Spirit to anoint us. Therefore, the Kingdom of God is not about any beautiful words or gifted speakers but the power of God!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that only the Power of God matters. We don’t have to be great speakers; we only need to trust in Your Power and Spirit. May You always anoint us when we preach Your gospel. We pray these in Your mighty name, Amen!

The Corinthian church was the best example for us…not to follow! It was plagued by division, incest, immorality, lawsuits, worship disorder, misuse of spiritual gifts, abuse of the Eucharist, etc. This group of so-called Christians was probably nothing more than a cult to outsiders. Apostle Paul wrote this letter, with madness and heartache, to address the problems, and it has become important instruction for us to discipline the church community.
