Becoming Wise

DAY 2 OF 3

Wisdom is to know whose we are

Who is the first person that comes to your mind when faced with a crisis? Is it a friend, leader, or family member?

When faced with a crisis, the kings in the Book of Daniel went to sorcerers or magicians for help. But Daniel went to God. He knew to whom He belonged.

Why do some of us struggle to reach out to God first when facing a crisis? Let me try and explain.

Once a woman tweeted, “I was having trouble with my computer, so I called my IT guy. He said, Mom, stop calling and bothering me at school!”

A mother has faith in her teenage son because he is much better at handling tech gadgets than she is. But would she trust her son and take his advice to manage her finances? Probably not, because he may not have this experience or expertise. Instead, she may have to advise him on how to handle finances!

Similarly, everyone in this world is good at something while not-so-proficient in something else, because no one is good at everything. We somehow relate to God just as we do to fellow human beings. So, we unconsciously believe in the need to approach God with issues we cannot handle, yet have the confidence to address the rest ourselves. And sometimes, when we do reach out to God, we tell Him what He should do or should not do. We limit Him to what we think is the best course of action.

God is not a human being. He is all-powerful and all-wise. Proverbs 3:19 says, “By wisdom, He founded the earth, and by understanding, He established the heavens.”

Daniel knew his God. According to Daniel 2:20-23, we see him acknowledging God as the wise, eternal and powerful God, the giver of wisdom and the revealer of the hidden. Since Daniel knew God, he went first to God.

Becoming wise means to know God and reach first to Him.

Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, today, reveal yourself to me through your Word. Help me to look first to you for answers.

About this Plan

Becoming Wise

When you think of Daniel, what comes to your mind first? Daniel in the lion’s den. Daniel, the dream interpreter. Daniel’s prayer life. Daniel’s integrity. If your answer was yes to one or all, you are right. But did you consider Daniel being wise? What made him stand apart from the rest? Join me on a journey toward Becoming Wise as we look at life lessons from Daniel.
