A Battle Scene

Yesterday we reflected on some of the more difficult things we have gone through in the past twelve months. If that is still weighing on you, spend some more time bringing those things before God or reach out to your small group leader or another trusted adult. Psalm 125 gives us another picture of how God is on our side. Have you ever seen a movie where the heroes are suddenly surrounded by the bad guys? Whether they are in the middle of a battlefield or walking down a dark alley, all of a sudden they are in a situation where it looks like there is no way out!

Read verse 2 again. There is a great worship song about how we fight our battles, and one of the key lines is: "It may look like I'm surrounded, but I'm surrounded by You." At times, it might feel like we are in an impossible situation and surrounded by the enemy, whether it is our own negative self-talk, a difficult circumstance, or a physical person or group of people. But verse 1 says: Those who TRUST in and RELY on the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but remains forever. And verse 2 says that the Lord SURROUNDS His people. So just like the worship song proclaims when we TRUST and RELY on the Lord, it may look like we are surrounded by trouble, but we are surrounded by a God who can and will fight our battles.

GO DEEP: We are all fighting some sort of battle. Yours might be a physical, mental, or spiritual fight. Which battles are you trying to fight alone? Who can you ask to join you in praying about these battles? What steps do you need to take to fully TRUST and RELY on the Father to surround you?
