SoulSister: Galatians 2:20 [A Study On Identity]ናሙና
IDENTITY BY FAITH
Galatians 2:20 says “The life I now live in the body I live by faith.” The word “life” means soul, and "soul" means life. Our mind, will, and emotions flow from our soul, but as human beings we are spirit, we have a soul, and live in a body. So, the soul that we now live in––our mind, will, and emotions [in our body]––we should live by faith. Not by what we feel, and not by what we see. Not by what we want, not by our own will, or what things are drawing us. We should live by faith in Christ.
I love the Amplified version of this verse where it says: "I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." So we should have faith in Christ, rely on Him, adhere to Him, and believe in what He says. How do you do that? By reading the Word of God. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17 NKJV). So what does the Word of God say? “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Faith puts us in a position to be thankful for what He’s already done. But it also puts us in a position to trust in what He's doing in us, and not just in what He has done. What Christ is doing in and through us by the Holy Spirit doesn't always have clarity from our point of view, but faith [through grace] empowers us to trust even when we don't see what He is doing. As children of God, this should be how we desire to live our lives.“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV)

Where we came from or what we used to be does not define our identity. Our identity is not in our past; our identity is in Christ. In this SoulSister devotional with TiaMarie Arnold, we're going to study Galatians 2:20 everyday with other supporting scriptures, so that when we face identity challenges in our day-to-day walk, it will be the scripture that flows from within us.
