7 Truths of Marriage: Real Talk Communications

DAY 6 OF 7

Stress-Free Talk

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3

Did you know one of the most frequent causes of doctor office visits is stress-related illness? That stresses me out. It’s also destructive to your marriage. Society’s speed is not conducive to the quality of focused time needed by spouses to truly get to know each other. There is no option where stress is concerned; you must remain intentional about minimizing it in your relationship. Your spouse and house should be a safe harbor against the raging stress storm determined to wreck your relationship.

Stress-free communications with your spouse help decrease the level of pressure life loves to heap upon you. While not every conversation with your spouse is cotton candy goodness, they all shouldn’t be adversarial either. Be purposeful in initiating positive topics that you both can chat on and on about without pressure, conflict or worry.

Keep it casual like you did when first pursuing each other. These talks help reduce stress and strengthen relationships. Centering your life and your communications on Jesus leads to stress-free and affirming talks that build faith, strengthen relationships, and reduces stress.

True Talk:

There are certain topics of conversation that almost always trigger stress. Sex, money, and kids are three of the most common. Set boundaries before heading toward a topic that brings stress. Talk when there is no stress so you’ll be able to destress the situation when it arrives.
