Challenging Situations

DAY 1 OF 5

Mindset of Gratefulness

As I write this, Sydney is plunged into another lockdown to prevent the spread of this hideous virus. Experts have commented that these events are probably the most sustained and serious stress that many of us are going to face in our lifetimes. If I were to list the freedoms we have lost, the activities we are no longer able to do, or the real stresses that we are facing, I may need a few pages. Somehow I doubt that a list would be of much benefit to anyone.

When situations are challenging it’s easy, almost natural, to focus on the difficulty. Focus on it long enough and it has the potential to consume our thoughts. Your sustained focus will eventually influence your filter – good or bad!

One of the best ways to combat this downward spiral is by adopting a mindset of gratefulness. You may feel you don’t have much to be grateful for right now; however, we can start with your vision – your ability to see and comprehend. To some, this in itself is a miracle and answer to prayer. Next, let’s focus on some past victories or breakthroughs you’ve experienced. What’s next? Can you add to this list? If you kept going, how long would it be?

I can’t help but think that the Apostle Paul had insight into human understating when he wrote the words above to encourage the Philippian church at the time. Amidst challenging situations, do you have the courage to fill your mind, constantly think about, and meditate on, that which is good, noble, true, and authentic?

Day 2

About this Plan

Challenging Situations

I don’t think anyone could say life is easy. It’s filled with twists and turns and unexpected tangents. Many times these twists and turns are challenging. Through our readings on challenging situations, our contributors will encourage us to shift our perspective when in the midst of trials and to remember that God is not overwhelmed, that He is with us, and that He is in control.
