Have My Heart
Jesus gave everything for us. His body was broken, His blood was spilled, and His loved was displayed on the cross. He, “did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:4-5).
So what is our response to this kind of love? We give Jesus our hearts.
But practically, what does that mean? How do we live in such a way that shows a life devoted to Jesus?
We give Jesus our Trust.
Jesus was very clear when He told us that we’d experience difficulties in life, but He ensures us that we can have peace through Him (John 16:33). By trusting that He walks with you through the valley and that He will lead you through your doubts, you give him a vulnerable part of your heart.
We give Jesus our Adoration.
It is God Himself who puts a new heart and spirit within us, allowing us to adore Him (Ezekiel 36:26). We are called to love God with our heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:26-28). When you allow your love for God to change your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you give Him all aspects of your life, from the inside out.
We give Jesus our Obedience.
No matter how genuine our love for God is, we all fall short and slip into sin. Asking God to search our hearts and to lead us on the correct path opens an opportunity for greater obedience (Psalm 139:23-24). As we give our hearts to Jesus, it’s important to give him everything, even the parts that are hidden or dark.
Reflect:
Which is most challenging for you: loving God with your thoughts, actions, or feelings? Why?
What is one thing you are holding onto that you need to trust God with?
