Uncommen: A Distorted View

DAY 4 OF 5

How God Sees You

1 Samuel 16:7 "But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart."

Now we get to the Person who we should be concerned about how they see us – God. I love this verse because we all fall victim from trying to look suitable for the wrong people and the wrong reasons. But this verse is there to remind us we have an audience of One.

The hard lesson here is there is nothing we can do, buy, wear, drive, or live that impresses God. As our verse says, God looks at the heart of man. Ouch! We can't do much about that, can we? But, we'll give our heart to God and begin the process of changing to be more like Christ.

Isn't this just like God to take the works out of the equation and put it back on faith in Him? Thank God he does because most of us do not have enough money to buy all of the respect we so desperately need. Even maxing out our credit cards and second mortgages can do nothing to impress God. So it comes down to the person we are in Christ, and praise God, that is enough.

We have set ourselves up to fail in a world that gives almost everyone a platform to showcase their brand to others. No matter how many smiling pictures are posted on social media, that person may be going through a challenging time.

As a culture, we need to get back to being concerned about how God sees us. That may not be the most glamorous, but it's the most important thing we can reflect.

Remember, God knows our heart, even when we think we are hiding it from Him. In the still, quiet moments, He is there. In the dark, when we are struggling, He is there. When we are in perfect fellowship with Him, He is there.

Uncommen Questions:

Would you want praise from someone you respect? Or from God?

Do you live as if God knows your heart?

Uncommen Challenge:

I challenge us all to keep our eyes on Jesus and live our lives as God sees our heart and says, "Good and faithful servant."

About this Plan

Uncommen: A Distorted View

We take mirrors for granted these days as they are so commonplace in our everyday lives. But original mirrors were not the reflective glass we are used to today but rather polished stone, gold, or even brass. These tended to be murky, distorted surfaces that didn't do a very good job of reflecting the true self. Join us as we adjust our perspective.
