Through the Bible: Esther

DAY 2 OF 3

Make Good Use of His Favour

When the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his own daughter, to go in to the king, she asked for nothing except what Hegai the king's eunuch, who had charge of the women, advised. Now Esther was winning favour in the eyes of all who saw her.
Esther 2:15 (ESV)
Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favour in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my people for my request.
Esther 7:3 (ESV)

Esther devoted herself a whole year for just one date with the king, and the depth of her beauty finally won favor with the king and everyone.

However, winning favor is not the end goal; what matters most is what we do with it. Exhorted and awakened to her mission, Esther fasted and on the third day, she prepared a feast in the face of the genocidal enemy of the Jews. She remained steadfast in critical times and made good use of the favor she won to rescue the people of God. Friends, what can you do with the favor you have received from God?

Prayer

Abba, when You found us, we are the ones who exclaimed “I found You!”. You may be hidden, but Your steadfast love and protection over our coming in and going out are never hindered. Praise You, Abba. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Esther

The book of Esther, written in the post-exilic period, is the only biblical book that doesn’t mention God by name. As the author records how Mordecai and Queen Esther overcame Haman’s evil plan to destroy the Jews, a strong message is communicated to all readers: God is always sovereign, and He puts people in positions of influence, not for our own glory, but His and the welfare of His Kingdom.
