Taking the Leap: Exploring 5 Ways to Take a Leap of Faith and Move Confidently Into Your Calling

There were times during my journey of entrepreneurship where my bank account and my budget were not working together well. My budget said, "This is what we need," and my bank account said, “Well, this is what we have and money doesn’t grow on trees.” I get it but what made it even worse was that I had this nagging lie that would come into my mind that said if I went back to work, I was disobeying God.

“Sure, times are hard but He told you to leave so you have to suffer through the hard times to be an obedient daughter,” the voice would say.

I believed this for a while, and one day I decided to ask, "God, if I go back to work, does that mean I don’t trust You?

It was at that moment that He revealed to me the deeper question: "If you return, will you remember that I am your source and that job is only a resource?"

That’s what it had been about for me the whole time. God saw that I had made working my source and wasn’t even willing to relinquish my job for what He had called me to do. He needed to change that mindset so that I’d be willing to say yes whenever He needed me.

Additionally, He revealed that there are people who are called to be The Builders, like Nehemiah. Nehemiah had a full-time career and was temporarily called away to fulfill God's work, but he was supposed to go back when his task was complete.

He was never supposed to be The Fisherman because God created him with the traits to be a Builder, someone who focuses on completing a task during a specific season. Nehemiah was on a specific assignment, and when that assignment was complete, he was to return to his work. He put everything in place financially and practically to step away from his work for a little while with the understanding that he would be returning to his career.

This will be freeing for many because your assignment may not be long-term. It may be temporary. If you feel called to step away to care for a loved one or children, to start a business or write, or any other number of things, realize that this may only be a temporary assignment. Putting it in the permanent "career" box would feel uncomfortable.

Allow God to reveal His plans to you. He may reveal this calling to you right now or in the future, but simply knowing this temporary assignment is an option can take some burden off of you as you trust God with the next steps.

What is God saying to you about your current leap?
