We buy the lie when we do not value the gifts God gave us

Going back to the story of Esau, in verse 32, we see that in the midst of his fatigue and hunger he wonders: "What good is the birthright to me?"

It may be that you are also wondering: “In the midst of the circumstance in which I am living, of what use are the promises of inheritance that God gave me? What use are his gifts to me, if I lack so much in life?". When we have this mindset, we buy the lie because we don't value the gifts that God has already given us.

Many times, we focus on the fact that we don't have something, instead of valuing the things that we do have. Perhaps we think like Esau: "God gave me the birthright and the blessing that it brings, but now I am missing a plate of stew." And because of a lie, we end up selling the gifts that God gave us and deviating from the path or plan prepared by God for us.

I remember a trip I made to Uganda some time ago with several pastors from the continent to visit Compassion projects. The poverty that exists there is extreme. At one of the projects, a local pastor stood up and shared a deeply inspiring word. He was a very poor pastor. And he started talking about how his cup overflowed with blessings. At the end of his message, we approached him to greet him, and a friend told him: “I have to ask you this question: "I know how you live, I see the poor condition you have, how can you stand with a smile on your face and say that your life overflows with all the blessings of God?" And this pastor replied: “I have rice for my family and to give to my neighbor. What else do I need?".

Many of us buy the lie that "if I have more, I'll be happy," and we do not value what we have in our hands. We get used to what we have. It happened to Esau with his birthright. That is why he was able to sell it for a plate of stew.

We cannot get used to: our family, our house, a plate of food on the table, clothes to wear and shoes for our feet. When we get used to what used to be a privilege, we begin to see it as a right and we lived like Pharisees.

I encourage you to live your life with wonder, appreciating the small and big things God has put in your hands.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for all that I have. I apologize if I did not know how to value it. Help me to really appreciate the things you gave me, not to get acquainted with it, and to always be grateful. I thank you because my cup overflows with your blessings. In the name of Jesus, amen.
