Surviving Dark Seasons: You Are Favored, Not Forgotten

DAY 1 OF 7

Identifying Obscurity

“Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.”
Exodus 3:1

The word obscurity is odd. It’s never really used in a positive light and leaves an uneasy stitch in your spirit. It simply sounds like something we want nothing to do with. Most of the time your intuition is right, except when it involves opportunities for transformational change.

Also known as wilderness seasons, understanding obscurity helps to lay a foundation of undefined periods of sustained time rather than one moment. Why? Because the course of your life involves contentment, change, growth, newly defined contentment, different change, unexpected growth, a resistance to leave contentment, fight against change, and unrecognized growth.

You see, the trajectory of your life changes. No matter how strong, rich, or stubborn you are, things are going to change. You can either swing off the back of the train’s caboose by your fingernails, sit in the coach car as it sweeps and swooshes along rickety tracks to unknown destinations, or you can take your place in the conductor’s cabin while keeping a clear vision of where you are heading.

It may be hard to accept thus far, but obscurity will be your avenue for true personal and spiritual change. Speaking of change, obscurity is also a form of the resurrection story. You die inside yourself within your own life, you remain buried for a short while, and then you return with a new anointing. And while it may seem dark during that season, please know you’re actually planted and in the growing process of something incredible blooming.
