Anxiety & Depression - SE Students

DAY 1 OF 5

You are not alone in your struggle with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Statistics show that the number of students, between the ages of 11 and 17, who struggle with anxiety and depression, is skyrocketing! No wonder, right? Thanks, COVID.

We are all in a battle with our mental health, and it’s important we learn that it’s OK to not be OK. It’s fine to share how you feel with God. In fact, He welcomes your emotions, even the heaviest of them.

All throughout the book of Psalms, we read songs of praise, songs of remembrance, songs of repentance, and even songs of lament and distress.

Psalm 77 is a psalm full of sadness. In it, we are moved through the psalmist’s thoughts as he explores heavy emotions. This psalm is a beautiful example of how we are to honestly express our emotions before the Lord. Not only are the psalmist’s deepest pains being expressed, but it seems that he is talking himself into praise. This psalm is a reminder to our souls that God is never far away, He’s consistently good, and His faithfulness is a promise even when we find ourselves struggling to believe Him for who He really is.

Today, remember it’s OK to not be OK and that you can express the way you feel.

As you read Psalm 77, think about how you can relate to the psalmist. What words does he give to help you express how you are feeling today?
