Day 3: The Eyes
"Look straight ahead, fix your eyes on what lies before you" Proverbs 4:25
In Psalm 106, the psalmists describes the Israelites in the wilderness acting like children of Egypt rather than children of Yahweh. They turned to what was tangible, controllable, and culturally familiar, rather than the mysterious, untameable God, and the future He was promising them.
They were reaching back for what they had left behind, rather than fixing their eyes on what lay before them. They forgot the God who saved them.
The stories of the Bible (and if we're honest, our own experiences too!) frequently point to God's people forgetting who they are, and whose they are.
The writer of Hebrews tells us to "fix our eyes on Jesus. Consider Him who endured such opposition, so that you will not grow weary or lose heart."
When I fix my eyes on Jesus, I remember the God who saved me, and I also remember His example. I look ahead, focusing on the future me - the person who I am becoming, rather than the person I have been. The person that God has dreamed up and is transforming me into.
Porn may offer something that's immediate and tangible, but it's not your God, and it's not your future. Fix your eyes on Jesus. He is both.
Over to you...
No formal questions today! Instead, take some time to fix your eyes on Jesus: read your favourite gospel, pray to Him, put on your favourite worship song that uses His name. Invite Him directly into your situation, exactly where you are, and how you are now. Ask Him to show you what your porn-free future will look like.
