Today and tomorrow we are going look closely at the story of the prodigal son and how it relates to the step of responsibility. The first half of the story is above. I encourage you to read the word "son" as “daughter,” as if it were yourself.

The cultural context of the son’s actions would have been equal to you or I going up to our parent or guardian and saying, “I wish you were dead.” That would be the only way a child would receive their inheritance early. It was an action worthy of execution, but the father was gracious to his son and gave him what he asked for.

As we can see, his son squandered every cent on excess. Certain translations speak of gambling and sexual immorality. How many of us are like this? We squander our time and resources on things so fleeting.
