What if it's true?

DAY 40 OF 47

SUNDAY (Rest, Catch Up, and Next Week's Overview)

All of this week's verses are repeated again today in case you missed any of them.

Four questions to engage with each day:

What stood out to me in today’s passage?

What does it mean or tell me about Jesus?

What does it say to me about how I view myself?

What choice is God placing before me today in response?

Week 7 Overview (John 19:1 - 21:24)

These final chapters of John’s account take you through the agony of Jesus’ death and ecstasy of his resurrection and reunion with his disciples.

Manipulated. Scorned. Abused. Mocked. Stripped. Pierced. Killed. Jesus endures these awful final hours.

And then – HE RISES!

Afterwards, Jesus appears to his loyal but flawed disciples.

As you read, note his especially personal, poignant interactions with Mary, Thomas, and Simon Peter. Mary, the demonic, who was the first to be healed by Jesus, is now the first one Jesus appears to. Thomas, the doubter, is the first one allowed to physically touch Jesus. Simon Peter, the denier, has his guilt and shame absolved. In essence, all three of them ARISE, too!

Note that there are three times that Jesus tells his distraught disciples, “Peace be with you.”

From this reading, may you come to better understand how Jesus has endured much and now stands ready to meet you in your own turmoil. Peace be with you. Now ARISE, too!

Amen.

Day 39Day 41

About this Plan

What if it's true?

Does God exist? Two thousand years ago, an eyewitness named John saw the miracles, the crucifixion, and the resurrection of a man he concluded was the Son of God. John recorded what he saw as evidence, so future generations could reach the same conclusion. So, what if Jesus really is the Son of God? Take time during Lent to read John's account and ask yourself, "What if it's true?"
