You Can Always Come Back Home
So, you’ve learned that sin is a trap. You’ve learned that temptation lies. You’ve learned that you need to throw off the old sinful nature that is always running away from God’s good plan for you.
But you might be feeling some uncomfortable feelings, too. Maybe you’re asking, “What do I do if I know I’ve made a mistake? What if I’ve even made a wrong choice on purpose and now I feel stuck?” You’re not alone. Many, many others have been there.
Watch this video for more on a Bible story about a young man who found himself far from where he knew he should be.
No sugarcoating it: You messed up. You were somewhere you weren’t supposed to be. You saw something you weren’t supposed to see. You did something you weren’t supposed to do. Your choices have left you confused and ashamed.
You’re not alone. Everyone is pulled away by sin sometimes. Sin pollutes our hearts by offering a buzz or a thrill. But then it’s quickly followed up by shame, feeling bad about who you are, or embarrassment. You’re afraid to tell anyone. You feel cornered. But sin grows best in the dark. It’s time to open up and talk about it.
Jesus said your heart can be made fresh through turning around and coming back to God. That’s repenting! Talk to God to be made fresh and clean. God is a loving Father. He is waiting for you to come home.
Ask yourself: What’s a sinful choice I’ve made that I feel ashamed of or try to hide?
Challenge yourself: God says you can run home to Him anytime you make a mistake, no matter how big or how small. He’s always ready to forgive you and give you a fresh start. Today, talk to God about your answer to the “Ask yourself” question above. Thank Him for that fresh forgiveness He always offers you.
Pray: God, thank You for how much You love me. Thank You for throwing Your arms open and taking me back no matter how far I may have been running from You. You are a good Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.
