Purity
When most people hear the word purity, they immediately think, No Sex, No Sex, No Sex. And as a teen, I thought the same way. I was under the assumption that being pure just meant that I wasn’t supposed to have sex until I was married. Although that would be the result from living a pure life, it’s not the definition of what purity is. I’ve discovered that purity is simply aligning your mind and will to the word of God. What does that mean? It means that your mind (what you think, what you watch) and your will (what you do, what you say) will match what God asks of you.
Our actions are developed after we have a thought and make a choice to act on such thought.
So, how do we change our actions?
We change our thoughts!
But then the question is, how do we change our thoughts?
Well, first, we must break down what influences your thoughts - may be social media, music, friends, etc.? Our thoughts are a combination of what we watch, hear, and say. Are you watching things that line up with what God’s word says? Or better yet, would you be comfortable with your parent joining you every day as you watch videos on YouTube, Twitter, and other social media outlets? Would you be okay with sharing your search history with the public? Or maybe play your music aloud in front of the people you admire the most? I get it. To society and Instagram, being liked is the most important thing you could achieve. You want to fit in, want to be liked, and don’t want to feel left out.
What if I told you on the other side of that fear is a group of teens just like you? Some are reading this bible plan just like you!
What you feed your mind will leak out into your thoughts, which will produce actions. If you want your actions to align with God’s word and plan for your life, you must first assess what you have been feeding your eyes and ears. If those things include sex outside of marriage, using drugs, using profanity, watching pornography, and more, ask yourself, do these actions please God? That should be your daily filter, a modern-day WWJD (What would Jesus do?).
