Living Changed: Provision

DAY 4 OF 5

Blessings Through Surrender

A devotional with Harmony

Many of us struggle with letting go of control. We believe that if only everything went exactly as we planned, we’d be living our best life. The funny thing is that when we surrender control to God, we get His best for us, which is far better than our own plans.

It wasn’t long ago when I was sitting in the hospital waiting room as doctors removed my husband’s second brain tumor in less than three weeks. As I waited for the neurosurgeon’s report, friends asked me for a list of things they could do to help my family during that stressful time.

At the top of my list was selling our old van. It had been broken down in front of our home for the past several months. We suspected it needed a new transmission, but neither my husband nor I had the energy to take care of it. Within days, the van was relocated and we had one less burden to bear.

One family arranged to park the van in a high-traffic location, a second family towed it there, and a third family added their phone number to the “For Sale” sign. With these families working together, the pieces quickly fell into place, and someone called almost immediately to ask about buying the van.

In the meantime, I ran into an acquaintance and she asked about my new van parked outside. It was the same make and model of a van she was looking to buy and wanted to know how I liked it. I told her I loved it so much that when my old van broke down, I bought the same make and model again!

She told me how she had been praying for a very specific van, one that was burgundy with beige interior. Then recently, she had been driving down a road she didn’t normally drive down and saw a burgundy van for sale. She had called the number and been told a sad story about how the family needed to sell the van and how the husband was battling brain cancer…We locked eyes, and she realized it was my family and my van! Excited by the realization, she asked me the color of the interior. Beige.

God provided for both of us in a uniquely orchestrated and completely unexpected way. With all the moving parts and people involved, the path to His provision was so complex that I never could have predicted the route or arranged that outcome.

When life is hammering at you mercilessly and you are overwhelmed by your circumstances, I encourage you to push through the fear and give control to God. When you surrender everything to Him, you give God space to work. Believe me, His plan for you is better than you could ever think, ask, or imagine. He is The Way, and His path is peace and abundance.
