Devotional On The Life Of Mosesናሙና
"How careful we must be with our words"
If we look carefully at both these passages and then compare them, we will find some things that will actually shock us!
God’s message to Pharaoh was very short, terse and clear. Moses was simply to carry that message and nothing more. But did Moses actually do that?
Here’s the message God spoke…The Lord God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days 'journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.
But Moses actually does not say these words, instead he said…Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness…The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days 'journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the Lord our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
Moses adds his own words! Seems very similar to Eve’s conversation with the Devil in the Garden.
This is what God actually told them… And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Gen 2:16,17). But Eve added to God’s words…God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die (Genesis 3:3) Here Moses seems to say, that if Pharaoh did not do this favour to the Israelites, God is going to get mad at them and send them pestilence and the sword!
Moses either misperceived God or added words to make his appeal to Pharaoh seem believable. How do we preach the Gospel? Or how do we communicate what God is saying to us? Do we add our own words, or our own thoughts to our communication, so that we may look good in the eyes of others? Or do we really misunderstand what God has truly said?
If we have done that we need to repent. Then we need to straighten out what we have said so others can fully comprehend what God is saying. Ask God to show you these deep things today. Be quick to respond to His nudges in your life and then make your words clear, your heart right and your attitude perfect!
