Living In His Power
We need to understand that our balance sheet is totally imbalanced. The goal is not to balance our sheet, saying, “I have done some bad, I need to do some good.” The goal is for complete imbalance. Our debts have been paid through the blood of Jesus Christ, and Christ now lives inside of us, and the Holy Spirit dwells inside of us. We are living in His power now.
Peter says in 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” Jesus is our treasure. He is the one who takes us to heaven—not our resume. It is His resume, His righteousness. Knowing Him is how He saves us and calls us by His glory and goodness.
We could never pay our balance. But the Gospel says to let God imbalance the sheet in our favor, with the assets, the righteousness, and grace that comes through faith in Christ alone. That is the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is not about going to church, doing the right thing, being a nice person, and trying to balance our sins with the good we do. The Gospel is about living in His power, not ours.
In other words, Paul said, “There are false teachers. Do not let them add anything to this Gospel. Do not let them take anything away from it. Faith is all about surrendering to the righteousness of God. My resume is better than anybody else’s will ever be, and it is still not going to get the job done. Jesus Christ has come and I want to find righteousness in Him alone. Balancing the scales is not good news. Letting Jesus forgive your heart and your soul: that is Good News!”
Today pray and say to the Lord: “I want to live in Your power, God, not in my power. Not in my power for salvation, not in my power for sanctification, not in my power to be a dad, to be a mom, to be a friend, to be an employer or an employee. I want Your power to come through me with the Holy Spirit that now lives in my heart.”

By looking at Philippians 3 through an accounting perspective, Paul shows us not the balance sheet but the imbalance sheet of knowing Jesus. There is nothing we can do to balance the sheet, and our resume will never be good enough. It is Jesus alone who erases our debt. Surrender to Him, and live in His power.
